Hearing Test Camp
08 Aug, 2022
Vulnerable elders often face diffiiculty to get the required test to find the status of their health. Their underlying health and commute make it difficult for them to get the tests. SISIE project, funded by the New Horizon for Seniors Program (NHSP), organized a day hearing test camp focusing to the vulnerable Nepali speaking elders. Given the intensity of resources and time required, the first camp was able to cover 8 elders ranging from age 55 to 75 years. The camp ran from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. All the vulnerable elders get their hearing test FREE of charge.
The second camp was planned for the seniors who are on visitor visa. There was a huge interest from the seniors in visitor's visa. Given the limited amount of funding allocated for this camp, we managed to accommodate nine seniors ranging from age 60 to 75 years. The seniors who participated in the test camp felt valued and expressed that this is a kind of golden opportunity provided to the group of seniors who, otherwise, won't be able to make use of this service in Canada.
"It has been an opportunity for me to get to know the hearing test system in Canada and compare the service provided in Nepal. We usually ignore the hearing ability in Nepal and how important it is to get it tested every year. I will try to visit the doctor for getting hearing test done every year. Loads of thanks to the NCSC project that has provided this opportunity", one of the participants expressed.
