Tuesday Tea Session with Seniors (2T2S)
07 Aug, 2022
The recent pandemic (COVID-19) created both immediate and repercussive effects. Deaths, economic downturns, job losses, social isolation and extreme fear are just a few of the struggles that we as global citizens have grappled through during COVID-19. There were certain populations who were affected by the pandemic more than others, especially seniors, and socially vulnerable population women and seniors living with underlying health conditions. Nepalese Community Society of Calgary (NCSC) and Together with Senior Society (TOSS) experienced that elderly member of their community are experiencing extreme vulnerability and survival threat into their daily living. NCSC and TOSS members, thus, felt an urgency to break this chain of social isolation and vulnerability by means of Senior Meet and Greet, and interaction with the elders to get their ideas of addressing social isolation. The session has been named as Tuesday Tea Session with seniors (2T2S) and the session aimed at scoping out the issues of elderly people in general and compounded by COVID-19 and the key activities that would help break the barriers of social isolation and improve physical and mental health of the elderly people. 2T2S has been possible with the funding support from the Government of Canada under New Horizons for Senior Program (NHSP) funding stream. A total of 7 Tuesday Tea Sessions with Seniors have been concluded by engaging over 100 elders. The project further engages elders in remaining 5 sessions.
